Departmental Job Program

The Departmental (or Non Work-study) Job Program includes on-campus jobs not subsidized by Federal Work-study funds. Students do not need to demonstrate financial need to work in a departmental job.

Eligibility Requirements for a Departmental Job

To be considered for student employment during the academic year, an individual must be enrolled in at least 6 hours.  Suppose a student is enrolled in less than 6 hours. In that case, the student may still be eligible for student employment status if they are in their last semester of study and are enrolled in the number of hours needed to complete the requirements to obtain their degree. 

Because the summer break is longer than five weeks, students working during this time will be subject to FICA taxes, per IRS guidelines.  Only students enrolled for the following fall semester will be eligible for summer employment.

Students who withdraw are no longer eligible to work as student employees as of the date they withdraw. Students who graduate are no longer eligible to work as student employees as of the last day of classes in the term they graduate.

Paperwork & Paychecks

Once you are hired, your onboarding process will kick off in ADP. Onboarding includes completing the required forms online and presenting required identification documents to the Career & Leadership Development Office, WAC215. You will need to present the following personal identification documents to determine employment eligibility:

  • social security card or state-issued birth certificate;
    and
  • photo ID such as a driver’s license or Bethel College ID;
    or
  • U.S. passport

All onboarding forms and identification documents must be completed/presented before you are allowed to clock in and begin working. Your supervisor will receive a notification when your onboarding is complete and you can begin working.

Paydays are typically around the 25th of each month. Bethel College uses EFT (electronic fund transfer) as the payroll distribution process. Your earnings are deposited to the bank account of your choice, which you set up during onboarding.
