Bethel announces new faculty and staff appointments

The following new faculty and staff have begun the 2026-27 school year (list includes those who began employment Jan. 1, 2026, or later):

Faculty

Rustam Hajiyev, associate professor of health and human performance. He has a Ph.D. in sport management from Troy (Ala.) University.

Louisa Lehmann, director of global learning, instructor of German studies. She graduated from Bethel in 2026 with a B.A. in English.

Marissa Murphy, instructor of nursing (from adjunct). She graduated from Bethel in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Renae Schmidt Peters, director of advising and First-Year Seminar. She remains library assistant for interlibrary loan and serials. She graduated from Bethel in 2001 with a B.A. in music and has a master’s degree in music education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Jonathan Poquette, director of instrumental ensembles, associate professor of music. He has a D.M.A. from the University of Georgia.

Kelly Poquette, associate professor of music. She has a Ph.D. in music education from the University of North Carolina.

Esther Reilly, visiting assistant professor of English. She has a D.Phil. in English literature from Trinity College Dublin.

Renae Stucky, co-director of libraries (from access services librarian). She graduated from Bethel in 2016 with a B.A. in history and has an M.L.S. from Emporia State University.

Diane Smith, associate professor of health and human performance. She has an M.S. in curriculum and instruction (physical education emphasis) from Wichita State University and a School Leadership License from Baker University.

Joanna Harader, Bible and religion

Renee Reimer, interdisciplinary studies. She is a 2014 Bethel graduate with a B.A. in music.

Administration

Gregg Dick, vice president for business and finance (from controller). He is a 1987 Bethel graduate in accounting.

Wynn Goering, president (interim). He graduated from Bethel in 1977 with a B.A. in English and music and has a Ph.D. in English language and literature from the University of Chicago.

Bethel is a four-year liberal arts college founded in 1887 and is the oldest Mennonite college in North America. Bethel was the only Kansas college or university selected for the American Association of College & Universities’ 2021 Institute on Truth, Community Healing and Transformation, and has been named a TCHT Campus Center.
