2021

My educational journey has been shaped by a lifelong passion for the creative arts and media. From an early age, I was involved in visual and performing arts, experiences that nurtured my curiosity and encouraged self-expression. As a first-generation Mexican American, that passion became a source of purpose, motivating me to pursue higher education and envision a future in which the creative arts could become both a meaningful profession and a lifelong vocation.

I would not be where I am today without the support of a small but deeply influential group of educators at Newton High School and Bethel College. They challenged me to think beyond what I believed I was capable of and continued to believe in my potential during moments when I struggled to believe in myself. Through my studies in graphic design, printmaking, and now as a second-year M.F.A. candidate in printmaking at the University of Kansas, I have grown from a practicing artist into an artist-scholar. My work investigates Mexican-American identity, Western visual culture, and Indigenous material traditions by combining studio practice with historical and cultural research.

Beyond the studio, teaching undergraduate printmaking courses and engaging in humanities-based projects have reinforced my belief that education is a collaborative process grounded in inquiry, mentorship, shared knowledge, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
