Meet the Coaches:

Pete Herrera, Assistant Coach

Coach Herrera comes to Bethel from Kansas Wesleyan University where he served as the Assistant men’s Basketball Coach for the last two seasons. Before starting at KWU, Herrera was the Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Russell High School from 2008-2010. While there, he led the Broncos to their first winning season in over 30 years. Prior to Russell, Herrera had coaching stints at Wichita North, North Kansas City, Mo, Newton, and McPherson. He also served as a student assistant at McPherson College, playing for the Bulldogs and Coach Roger Trimmell. Herrera earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Michael Doerksen, Assistant Coach

Coach Michael Doerksen is a 1979 graduate of Bethel College and played for the Threshers from 1975-1977. He comes to the program with twenty five years of coaching experience in the Newton School District. In addition to coaching he teaches PE at Chisholm Middle School here in Newton.
