NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Players from Bethel’s men’s and women’s tennis teams brought home the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for the week ending March 4.
Ryan LaCombe, sophomore from Abilene, and Kimberly Buzbee, senior from Topeka, were selected for their performances from Feb. 26 - March 4 by a vote of conference sports information directors.
These are LaCombe’s and Buzbee’s first weekly awards of 2018, and the second for the Lady Threshers, with Mallory Meier, sophomore from Winfield, earning the Week One Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award.
LaCombe was feeling the Arch Madness, as he helped the Threshers sweep all four games during their road-trip through St. Louis March 2-3, at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri.
LaCombe and Dylan Miera, freshman from Amarillo, Texas, took care of the #1 doubles slot in all four matches, with their closest victory being 8-4 against NCAA DIII Webster University.
LaCombe played just as strongly during singles action, with three of his four matchups on the trip resulting in easy 6-1, 6-1 victories.
Buzbee created some buzz in St. Louis during the same weekend. She went 8-0 in her combined singles and doubles matches.
Splitting time during the trip at #1 singles and #2 singles, Buzbee’s closest matchup wound up being a 6-3, 6-2 victory against NCAA DIII Webster University.
At the close of the weekend, Buzbee sat at 7-0 for this spring season in doubles play, and helped spur the Lady
