NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College’s golf program was one of only five in the NAIA to receive the President’s Special Recognition academic award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
This came shortly after it was announced that the golf team was one of 11 squads at Bethel who were named NAIA All-Scholar Teams from the 2016–17 school year.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Scholar Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year, and as a team hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Bethel earned President’s Special Recognition status due to their cumulative GPA being over 3.5, and was the only one in the region (surrounding states) to do so.
Bethel’s 2016–17 roster comprised seniors and 2017 graduates Taylor Hageman, Cheney, Brian Krehbiel, Donnellson, Iowa, Kyle Regier, Whitewater, Jaden Schmidt, Moundridge, and Drew Trollope, Kingman, junior Sam Bertholf, Winfield, sophomores Nathan Gamache, Halstead, Connor Mickens, Meriden, and Chase Sparks, Oklahoma City, and freshmen Parker Austin, Derby, and Kale Johnson, Belleville.
Head coach is Gregg Dick.
