NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 1,658 teams to earn Scholar-Team designation for the 2016–17 academic year.
Bethel College had the great distinction of having 11 different athletic teams meet the requirements to be NAIA All-Scholar.
Leading Bethel overall in team GPA was the men’s golf team, Gregg Dick, coach. Their cumulative GPA 3.60, with women’s tennis (Richard Southern), with a 3.51 team GPA.
These 11 teams almost double Bethel’s six NAIA Scholar-Teams for 2015–16.
The complete list of Bethel teams with GPAs follows: men’s golf, 3.60; women’s tennis, 3.5; women’s soccer (Anthony Turini), 3.39; women’s cross country (Jeff Hoskisson), 3.37; men’s tennis (Southern), 3.35; men’s cross country (Hoskisson), 3.27; women’s outdoor track and field (Hoskisson), 3.26; women’s indoor track and field (Hoskisson), 3.26; softball (Stacy Middleton), 3.18; volleyball (Scott Weston), 3.17; and women’s basketball (Adam Esses), 3.10.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
