Mika Patron to give senior organ recital

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College student Mika Patron will give her senior organ recital April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Administration Building chapel.

Patron, of North Newton, is a student of Donna Hetrick, instructor of organ.

She has also studied piano with Karen Bauman Schlabaugh, professor of music, and performed her senior piano recital last spring.

Patron will graduate in May with a degree in music, with a minor in German.

Her stop assistants for the recital will be Neal Patron, North Newton, and Rebecca Schrag, Bethel sophomore from Newton.

On Patron’s recital program are “Praeludium in G minor, BuxWV 149” by Dietrich Buxtehude; “Vater unser im Himmelreich, BWV 636” by J.S. Bach; Sonata No. 6 in D minor, Op. 65 by Felix Mendelssohn; Sonata No. 2 by Paul Hindemith; “Lied, Op. 31” by Louis Vierne; and “Litanies” by Jehan Alain.

Patron is a 2012 graduate of Concordia Academy in North Newton.

As a Bethel student, Patron has been a percussionist in the Bethel College Wind Ensemble (starting as a high school student), as well as a member of Bethel College Jazz Ensemble II (piano) and the Bethel College Women’s Chorus. She was a rehearsal accompanist and student conductor for the Women’s Chorus.

She has also been serving as an organist at Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson since she was in high school.

Patron’s recital is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in The Meeting Place on the ground floor of the Administration Building.
