Bethel continues spring forensics competition with Border Wars

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College continued its spring forensics season with a trip to the Border Wars Swing, Feb. 4-5.

Kansas Wesleyan University and Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma, hosted the tournament, held on the KWU campus in Salina.

On Day 1, with Bethel competing against 16 other schools, sophomore Emily Kondziola, North Newton, took 3rd in After Dinner Speaking (ADS), sophomore Candy Dao, Salina, 4th in Program of Oral Interpretation (POI), freshman Akiyaa Hagen, Salina, 5th and “Top Novice” in Dramatic Interpretation, and senior Clinton Unruh, Newton, 6th in Informative Speaking.

On the second day of the tournament, Bethel was one of 10 schools competing. Senior Jacob Miller, Westmoreland, placed 1st in both Persuasion and Impromptu Speaking.

Unruh was “Next Out” in Impromptu, Dao 4th in POI and 5th in Dramatic Interpretation, Hagen 4th in Prose Interpretation and Kondziola 6th in ADS.

Bethel College is the only private college in Kansas listed in the Forbes.com analysis of top colleges and universities, the Washington Monthly National Universities-Liberal Arts section and the National Liberal Arts College category of U.S. News & World Report, all for 2016–17.
