Unruh is Bethel’s fourth nationals qualifier in forensics

NORTH NEWTON, KAN.Bethel College has a fourth qualifier for forensics nationals after a swing tournament in Tulsa Oct. 29-30.

Senior Clinton Unruh, Newton, finished 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking on Day 1, hosted by Tulsa Community College on their campus. That put him over the top in that event for the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) next spring.

Bethel was among 19 schools competing in the first day of the Green Country Swing. Bethel sophomore Candy Dao, Salina, was 1st in Dramatic Interpretation, 2nd in Prose Interpretation and 4th in Program Oral Interpretation (POI), while freshman Akiyaa Hagen, Salina, finished 4th in Poetry Interpretation.

In team sweeps, Bethel placed 4th.

On Day 2, hosted by Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, on the TCC campus, Bethel was one of 12 schools in competition.

Dao was 4th in POI and 5th in Drama, while Hagen took 1st place in Poetry. Unruh also competed.

Bethel College is the only private college in Kansas listed in the Forbes.com analysis of top colleges and universities, the Washington Monthly National Universities-Liberal Arts section and the National Liberal Arts College category of U.S. News & World Report, all for 2016–17.
