NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The fall concert featuring all Bethel College choral ensembles was such a success last year, they’re doing it again.
Bethel Sings, Second Edition, will be Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. in Bethel College Mennonite Church, with music by the Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Chorus, Open Road (a cappella, men), Woven (a cappella, women) and Concert Choir.
Accompanists are Karen Bauman Schlabaugh, Bethel professor of music, seniors Mika Patron, North Newton, and Matthew Graber, Freeman, South Dakota, and sophomore Rebecca Schrag, Newton.
The concert will feature student conductors Andrew Thiesen, senior from Newton, Billie Selichnow, junior from Wichita, and Graber, this year’s recipient of the Walter H. Hohmann Choral Conducting Scholarship.
The Bethel College Brass Quintet will play for one of the Concert Choir numbers. Members of the quintet are sophomores Connor Born, North Newton, and Alec Loganbill, Hesston, trumpets, Rebecca Schrag, French horn, and Selichnow and Thiesen, trombones.
Also on the program are two students who sang for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) West Central Region conference and student auditions this past weekend.
Freshmen Polly Carlson, Hurley, South Dakota, and Madison Hofer-Holdeman, Wichita, will sing their NATS pieces.
The concert will feature of mixture of sacred and secular music.
