NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has named Bethel College senior Jalen Sykes, Bakersfield, California, the National Offensive Player of the Week.
Sykes, also the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, turned in a career-high 330 yards, rushing on 41 carries that were good for an average of just under 8.1 yards per carry, in a 70-56 loss to Sterling College Oct. 15.
To go with his yardage production, Sykes was able to find the end zone five times, including a 52-yard run early in the game.
Sykes now leads the KCAC in rushing with 904 yards, enough to put him at fourth in the NAIA in total rushing yardage. He is first in the NAIA in average rushing yards per game, having averaged 150.7 yards per game this season. He is also seventh in the nation in terms of all-purpose yards per game, sitting at 157 yards per game.
