Bethel keeps qualifying forensics competitors for nationals

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Spring term hadn’t even started when the Bethel College forensics team jumped full-bore into second-semester competition.

Jan. 31, at Day #2 of the Zombie Apocalypse Swing Tournament hosted by Doane College and Hutchinson Community College on the HCC campus, Bethel finished third out of 13 teams, behind the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1st) and the University of Florida.

In addition, sophomore Shekhinah Jones, Salina, qualified his third event, Prose Interpretation, for the national tournament. He was tournament champion in Prose at the Zombie Apocalypse Day #2.

In addition, Candy Dao, freshman from Salina, was tournament champion in Poetry Interpretation.

Emily Kondziola, freshman from North Newton, finished 2nd in Impromptu Speaking, while Jacob Miller, junior from Westmoreland, took 3rd in Persuasion and 4th in Communication Analysis.

Kendra Gonzalez, sophomore from Minneapolis, was 5th in Program of Oral Interpretation and Clinton Unruh, junior from Newton, finished 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking.

The American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) is April 2–4 at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Bethel has qualified four students in eight separate events thus far.
