NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College has been named a Christian College of Distinction for 2015–16, as announced April 27.
Bethel is one of only three private faith-based colleges in the state to be named to this list, which also includes Friends University, Wichita, and Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina.
Christian Colleges of Distinction are part of the online college guide Colleges of Distinction, which lists institutions of higher education it deems the best places to learn,grow and succeed.
Colleges of Distinction looks at four key areas – engaged students; great teaching; vibrant community; and successful outcomes – with the goal of providing students, counselors and parents with information about schools that excel in these key areas.
A College of Distinction is: nationally recognized by education professionals as an excellent school; strongly focused on teaching undergraduates (by professors rather than teaching assistants); home to a wide variety of innovative learning experiences; an active residential campus with many opportunities for personal development; and highly valued by graduate schools and employers for its outstanding preparation.
Christian Colleges of Distinction are those that
expand a student’s worldview with Christian principles and ideas, prepare both the heart and mind for success, and allow students to integrate their faith with the real world.
Christian College of Distinction offer multiple opportunities for students to grow spiritually. At Bethel, these include Bible study groups, worship services, service projects, hymn sings and weekly chapels .
Bethel College is the oldest college in North America affiliated with Mennonite Church USA. While Mennonites make up the largest single denominational group among students, faculty and staff, more than half of students come from backgrounds other than Mennonite, and Bethel welcomes students of all faiths.
