NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Sand Creek Trail on the Bethel College campus will once again be part of a national celebration of America's recreational trails.
On June 1, for the second year, the Sand Creek Trail Committee will join American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, which will bring together outdoor enthusiasts across the country for the 21st annual celebration of the nation's trail system and its many supporters and volunteers.
SCT Committee members will be at the trailhead in Memorial Grove between dawn and dusk (6 a.m.-8 p.m.), where they will have water for visitors and be available to answer questions.
David Kreider, SCT Committee chair, said about 160 people walked, ran or biked the trail on National Trails Day® 2012. The 2013 event will also mark Sand Creek Trail's second anniversary of being designated a National Recreation Trail.
There will be more than 2,000 events nationwide on June 1, including trail maintenance, hiking, paddling, biking, horseback riding, bird-watching, running and trail celebrations.
American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® occurs every year on the first Saturday of June with the goal of inspiring the public to discover, learn about and celebrate trails while participating in outdoor activities and trail stewardship projects.
