Kauffman Museum offers free admission on annual Museum Day

NORTH NEWTON, KAN – Kauffman Museum at Bethel College, along with the Harvey County Historical Museum in Newton, will participate in the Smithsonian’s Museum Day Live! for the eighth consecutive year.

Saturday, Sept. 29, the two museums – along with more than 1,400 other participating venues across the country – will open their doors free of charge. Museum Day Live! encourages learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide by asking local museums to emulate the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

For one day only, Kauffman Museum and Harvey County Historical Museum will grant free admission to visitors who download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Last year’s event drew over 350,000 museum-goers, and this year’s Museum Day Live! is expected to attract close to 400,000 participants.

“We see Smithsonian Museum Day as one way we can make cultural education accessible to everyone,” said Kauffman Museum director Rachel Pannabecker.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view “The Way We Worked,” the latest exhibit at the Harvey County Historical Museum, and the permanent exhibits at Kauffman Museum.

Harvey County Historical Museum is located at 203 North Main Street in Newton and will be open Sept. 29 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Kauffman Museum is located at 27th and North Main Streets, on the Bethel College campus in North Newton, and will be open that Saturday from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

The Museum Day Live! ticket is available to download at Visitors who present the ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per e-mail address.
