I love the community here at Bethel. I knew I’d have great classes, but I never thought I would stumble upon a whole new family when I came to college. You can count on everyone to lend a helping hand.

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – It’s a dry campus, but Bethel College will still join in “America’s Largest TRAILgating Party” Saturday, June 2.

The Sand Creek Trail Committee invites walkers to visit the trail between dawn and dusk on that day and they’ll be available as hosts with water and trail mix snacks at the Memorial Grove trailhead.

The occasion is the American Hiking Society’s 20th annual National Trails Day®. In addition, the Sand Creek Trail Committee is marking the one-year anniversary of the trail being designated a National Recreation Trail.

National Trails Day is a long-standing celebration, in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, of America’s trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers.

“The slogan for NTD 2012, America’s Largest TRAILgating Party, is an open invitation to all Americans to get outside and connect with local hiking clubs, outdoor retailers, local parks and recreation departments or federal land managing agencies to experience everything the great outdoors has to offer,” said an American Hiking Society press release.

National Trails Day has been happening every first Saturday of June since 1993. Event hosts include local hiking clubs, federal agencies, municipal parks, retailers, land trusts and many other businesses and organizations. For more information about National Trails Day, visit www.AmericanHiking.org/ntd.

Founded in 1976, American Hiking Society is the only national, recreation-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting America’s hiking trails, their surrounding natural areas and the hiking experience.
