Women’s a cappella group to share their ‘Woven’ harmonies

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – A cappella vocal music will be a highlight of the May 12-13 weekend at Bethel College, starting with the female voices of Woven.

Woven will give an end-of-the-year concert Saturday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

Woven, now in its second year of existence, is student-organized and student-led. It is made up of nine Bethel sophomore, junior and senior women.

Members of Woven are seniors Naomi Graber, Elkhart, Ind., Kelsey Ortman, Marion, S.D., Sarah Pohl, Moundridge, and Sara Volweider, Haven; juniors Renee Reimer, Sioux Falls, S.D., Megan Siebert, Topeka, and Allison Yoder, Kalona, Iowa; and sophomores Caroline Mayhew, Lawrence, and Ariel Silva, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Woven’s May 12 program includes “And So it Goes” (Billy Joel, arranged by Kirby Shaw); “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg); “Because” (John Lennon and Paul McCartney); “The Parting Glass” (traditional Irish, arranged by the Wailin’ Jennys); “Esto les Digo” (Kinley Lange); “Lift Thine Eyes” (Felix Mendelssohn, from Elijah); “If Ye Love Me” (Tallis); and “Mister Sandman” (arranged by Lojeski), among others.

The a cappella showcase continues Sunday, May 13, with the men’s ensemble Open Road performing at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
