NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The Bethel College Chamber Orchestra will be performing at 7:30 p.m. May 10 in Krehbiel Auditorium.
The Chamber Orchestra will perform, “Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppé, “Trauermusik” by Paul Hindemith, “Printemps” by James Stephenson, and “Berceuse and Finale” from “Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky.
“Trauermusik” will feature a viola solo by Kay Buskirk, adjunct instructor of music. Orchestra director, Timothy Shade, said that Buskirk approached him about doing the piece. Shade who wasn’t previously familiar with the piece for viola and string orchestra said, “it’s a lot of fun.”
Buskirk, adjunct instructor of music, is a violist who has participated with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra for 21 years. She also serves on the Advisory Board for the Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestras Program.
Along with the piece with Buskirk, Shade said that “Berceuse and Finale” from Stravinsky’s “Firebird” is a good finale and way to end the year on a strong, loud note.
Admission is free and the concert will have a free-will offering during the intermission.
