NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College students Kelly Reed, senior from Edinburg, Texas, and Joshua Powell, junior from Basehor, will give a joint vocal recital Friday, Oct. 9.
The recital will be at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building chapel on the Bethel campus and is free and open to the public. Both Powell and Reed are students of Soyoun Lim Chun, Bethel College assistant professor of music.
Accompanist is Rich Toevs of Newton.
Reed will be singing “La Promessa” and “Il Rimprovero” by Rossini; “Mein Herr Marquis” from the opera Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss; “Chanson d’avril” (Barthe-Banderall); “Vielle Chanson” (Miolan-Carvalho); and two songs from The Light in the Piazza by Adam Guettel, “The Beauty Is” and the title song.
Powell will sing “Allerseelen,” “Morgen!” and “Zueignung” by Strauss; “Preghiera” and “La serenata” by Tosti; “Una furtive lagrima” from the opera L’Elisir d’amore by Donizetti; “And They’re Off” from A New Brain by William Finn; and “Love to Me” from The Light in the Piazza.
Reed and Powell will conclude the recital with a duet from The Light in the Piazza, “Say it Somehow.”
Both students plan to graduate from Bethel in May 2011, Reed with a degree in social work and Powell with a degree in communication arts.
