Free recital to feature trumpet music by American composers

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College Assistant Professor of Music Richard Tirk will be leaving to take a position at Luther College in Iowa but there’s one more chance to hear him play in a public concert.

Tirk will join two of his students, a Bethel faculty member with whom he has played often and another local pianist in a free recital Tuesday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton.

Tirk, along with Kyle Unruh, Goessel, and Austin McCabe-Juhnke, North Newton, on trumpet, and Karen Bauman Schlabaugh, Bethel professor of music, and Karen Unruh, Goessel, on piano, will play American trumpet music including works by Kent Kennan, Halsey Stevens and Catherine McMichael.
