Trombonist Tierney to give recital at Bethel College

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Rob Tierney, Bethel College’s instructor of low brass, will give a trombone recital in the college chapel, third floor of the Administration Building, on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Tierney is also director of instrumental music at Hesston College and director of instrumental music for Hesston USD 460.

He has a bachelor’s degree in music education from the Crane School of Music and a master’s degree in trombone performance from the New England Conservatory. He has performed with the professional orchestras of Boston, Hartford, Conn., and Albany, N.Y. In addition to his teaching duties, Tierney also plays in the Wichita Grand Opera.

Hesston USD 460 is supporting the recital in fulfillment of Tierney’s Individual Professional Development Plan. The recital is free and open to the public.

Tierney’s program includes “Fantasie in A minor” by Telemann, arr. by A. Raph; “Vocalise” by Rachmaninoff, arr. by H.C. Smith; “Morceau Symphonique” (with organ) by Guilmant, arr. by K. Schnorr; “Dances of Greeting” by Bolter; “T. Rex” by Phillips; and “Aria and Dance” by T.R. George.

Appearing in the recital with Tierney are musicians Ken Rodgers, Hesston College piano and organ instructor; Hesston High School student John Murray and Hesston College student Brent Garber on percussion; and Bethel College students Ben Harder and Andy Toews on trombone.
