NORTH NEWTON, KS. – For the 15th consecutive year, a grant from the Kansas Library Network Board has allowed the Bethel College Library to update and expand its collection, reports Gail Niles Stucky, library co-director.

The $4,800 grant has enabled the library to purchase materials on undergraduate research topics in psychology. Having these materials locally will save time for the library’s users, says Stucky, and will also enhance the library’s contribution to the statewide interlibrary loan network.

With the grant money, 103 new items have been purchased. Of these, 35 were videos or DVDs, ranging from major motion pictures emphasizing psychological disorders to educational titles from the American Psychological Association. Titles of new books include, but are not limited to, Assisted Suicide and the Right to Die, Essays in Social Neuroscience and Great Psychologists and Their Times.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a statewide cooperative service that allows library users to borrow materials from libraries across the state. To qualify for an Interlibrary Loan Development Grant, applicants agree to make materials in their collections available through ILL. Proposals are funded on the basis of their potential to improve the state interlibrary loan network.

This grant program is funded by the State of Kansas and is administered by the Kansas Library Network Board, a division of the Kansas State Library in Topeka. Thirty-seven libraries from across the state submitted a total of 56 ILDP grant proposals. The Network Board approved funding for 32 of the applications at its summer meeting in August.
