I love the community here at Bethel. I knew I’d have great classes, but I never thought I would stumble upon a whole new family when I came to college. You can count on everyone to lend a helping hand.

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Kauffman Museum will be the newest participant in the fourth annual CityArts garage sale on Saturday, July 8.

CityArts, a gallery and education center at 334 N. Mead in Wichita’s Old Town, sponsors the unusual sale. Participants are asked to bring “art type items that have been created, given or bought that they no longer wish to keep, store or look at.”

Many of the items that the Friends of Kauffman Museum will offer come from the estate of Dallas Voran of North Newton, a 1943 Bethel alumnus who collected art during the years he spent working for the U.S. State Department in southeast Asia.

These items include tribal art collected in Laos in the 1950s, prints of Viet Nam Montagnard life and large framed rubbings from Angkor Wat temples in Cambodia, as well as Boehm porcelain sculptures from a limited edition series of North American birds commissioned by the National Audubon Society.

Garage sale participants pay CityArts a nominal fee for table space and then receive all further proceeds from their sales. The event will also benefit Kauffman Museum “by providing a new audience for art works given to us but which do not fit our collecting focus,” said museum director Rachel Pannabecker.

There will be around 14 other groups participating in the sale, which takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 8. For more information about the sale, contact Tabitha Bean at CityArts, (316) 462-2787. For specifics on the art being offered by Kauffman Museum, call Pannabecker at (316) 283-1612.
