Thresher forensics kicks off spring season

SALINA, KAN. -- The Bethel College forensics team earned five awards from its first tournament of the spring semester at Kansas Wesleyan University, Feb. 3-5. Five team members participated in the tournament, competing against teams from 19 other colleges and universities at the Border Wars Swing Tournament, hosted by Kansas Wesleyan and Drury University, Springfield, Mo.

During the first half of the swing tournament, Lindsey Miller, senior from Haven, placed third in informative speaking. Peter Miller, sophomore from Haven, and Robert Weaver, junior from Wichita, both advanced into semifinals for impromptu speaking. Weaver advanced into finals and earned fifth place overall.

On the second day of individual events competition, Lindsey Miller placed third in informative speaking and fourth in after-dinner speaking.

Also in attendance were sophomore Kristin Watson-Drennen, Lyons, and freshman Shannon Carey, Moundridge.

The Bethel squad will next travel to Norman, Okla., for the Sweetheart Swing tournament, hosted by Oklahoma University and West Texas A&M, Feb. 10-12.
