LEE’S SUMMIT, MO. -- The Bethel College forensics squad earned six awards from their most recent tournament, the Central States Swing at Longview Community College, Oct. 28-30. Seven members of the squad attended the tournament and competed against teams from 25 other colleges and universities.

During the first half of the swing tournament, Lindsey Miller, senior from Haven, placed third in extemporaneous speaking. She did so again on the second day of individual events competition, which qualified her to attend the American Forensic Association National Tournament in Gainesville, Fla., in spring 2006. In addition, Weaver advanced into the semi-finals of impromptu speaking.

In the parliamentary debate competition, two teams advanced to octafinals: Lindsey Miller and Peter Miller, sophomore from Haven, and Robert Weaver, junior from Wichita, and Shannon Carey, sophomore from Moundridge. Both teams received awards.

Also competing were freshmen Jenna Boettger, Hesston; Allen Harpool, Moundridge; and Ashley McDonald, Douglass.

The next tournament for the Threshers will be at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Nov. 4-6.
