Seek. Serve. Grow.

The combination of community, service, and academics are what stand out to me about [being a] Thresher. With small classes, attentive professors, and the focus on service…students get the opportunity to excel in multiple areas.

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- After a one-year hiatus, a popular Fall Festival event returns to Bethel College. The Thresher 5K Run, Jog or Walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 7:45 a.m. at the new Thresher Sports Complex on the north end of the Bethel College campus. The race follows an all-terrain circuit, similar to that of 2003’s event, which includes pavement, gravel and the Sand Creek Trail on the northeastern corner of the campus.

Race day registration will take place from 7-7:30 a.m. at Franz Plaza, the entryway to the sports complex, located on East 29th St. just west of Goering Hall. The race will begin promptly at 7:45 (15 minutes early to accommodate the stadium dedication at 9:30 a.m.) on Schmidt Track, where it will also end.

To pre-register, contact the Bethel College Office of Alumni Relations at (316) 284-5251, e-mail jkliewer@bethelks.edu or pick up registration forms at Newton Medical Center or the Newton Wellness Center. Pre-registration must be postmarked or hand-delivered with payment by Sept. 22. Those registering by Sept. 22 may pick up their packets, which will include the T-shirt, from the Alumni Office on the third floor of the Administration Building on Thursday or Friday, Sept. 29 or 30, or on race day.

The pre-registration fee, which includes a T-shirt, is $17 for adults and $10 for children. Late registration (any time after Sept. 22, including race day), with the T-shirt available later, is $20 for any age.

The Thresher 5K Run, Jog or Walk is part of Bethel College’s 35th annual Fall Festival, scheduled for Sept. 29-Oct. 2. Other festival activities include ethnic foods, entertainment, arts and crafts and children’s programs, as well as alumni and athletic events. This year’s Fall Festival will celebrate the completion of the new Thresher Sports Complex with a dedication on Saturday morning, Oct. 1, beginning at 9:30.
