NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- With 509 students this fall compared to 470 a year ago, enrollment at Bethel College jumped by more than 8 percent. In addition, Bethel continues a trend, begun in 2003, of about a 15 percent increase in new students over the previous fall.
There are 192 new students (mostly first-time freshmen and transfers) on campus this fall, compared to 168 at this time last year.
Of the 119 freshmen (up from 98 in 2003), 85 come from Kansas. The rest represent 10 other states--Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas--and two foreign countries, Cameroon and Serbia-Montenegro.
"The continued increase in enrollment affirms the combined effort of the entire Bethel College community," said Allan Bartel, director of admissions. "Our admissions counselors really know the prospective students they work with. Those students have confidence that Bethel will be a good fit for them and that they’ll be welcomed and helped to feel at home."
