NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- Bradley S. Born, associate professor of English at Bethel College, was awarded the Ralph P. Schrag Distinguished Teaching Award May 23 during commencement ceremonies at Bethel College in North Newton. The award is given to a faculty member judged to have made an outstanding contribution to teaching. Born has taught at Bethel College since 1995. He received his bachelor's degree at Tabor College and master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Kansas. He wrote his dissertation on 19th century American literature of the sea. Born teaches literature and writing courses in the English department, as well as general education courses, and serves as an advisor for the senior English majors working on their seminar papers.

"Brad loves to teach," said Academic Dean John Sheriff at the presentation. "His students appreciate what they describe as the wonderful store of compassion, enthusiasm, humor, energy and skill that he brings to his teaching. Brad cares equally about people and ideas and passes on to his students understanding and passion."
