NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- Bethel College student Zach Unruh, senior from Hillsboro, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Chemistry Major Award from the Wichita Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Unruh was presented with the award at the society's meeting on April 14 at Emporia State University. The Wichita Section of the ACS, which covers approximately the western three-fourths of Kansas, presents the award to chemistry majors who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their field.

Unruh was nominated for the honor by Richard Zerger, professor of chemistry at Bethel College

"Zach is very deserving of this award," said Zerger. "It is certainly a reflection of his excellent work in chemistry over the past four years here at Bethel College. Zach has great potential for an outstanding career in chemistry."

In June, Unruh will head to Florida where he has accepted an internship with the Disney Corporation. Unruh will work with Disney's aquarium, one of the largest in the world. His responsibilities will include maintaining aquatic and terrestrial habitats by sampling and testing the environments to ensure the health of the animals.

Unruh's future plans include graduate or medical school.
