NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- A community of musicians. That’s the way Bethel College music professor William Eash sees the Bethel College Music Camp that once again will bring high school students musicians to campus for a week of making music. The dates for summer 2004 are June 13 to 18 in North Newton. "Music Camp at Bethel College integrates many aspects of the musical experience," Eash says. "We are interested in cultivating a community of musicians in a context where we can make great music."

Music Camp is planned for high school students entering grades eight to 12, including graduating seniors. The annual camp at the liberal arts college in North Newton gives youth the opportunity to participate in both choral and instrumental music. Students also receive instruction in chamber music, take private lessons, study music theory and participate together in evening activities.

"Our Music Camp is very structured. We do everything," Eash says, explaining that this is the only music camp in this part of the state. "Students can participate in orchestra, band, chamber groups, including a bell choir, and everyone sings in the choir."

Students are housed in residence halls on campus. Counselors are current or former Bethel College music students.

"In fact, one of our counselors came here for five years of Music Camp as a camper. Significant friendships are established during this summer camp," Eash says.

Instructors for Music Camp are faculty at Bethel College and Bethel College Academy of Music as well as area music educators.
