NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -- Astronomer Steve Shawl, Lawrence, will present two illustrated talks April 1 and 2 at Bethel College, North Newton. He will speak on "Stellar Evolution" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday in the Administration Building Chapel. He will present Friday’s convocation on "Highlights from the Hubble Telescope" at 11 a.m. in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center. The public is invited to both lectures. Admission is free. Shawl is professor in the department of astronomy and physics at the University of Kansas where he has taught since 1972. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California at Berkeley and his doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin. Shawl coauthored an introductory astronomy textbook, titled "Discovering Astronomy" (Kendall/Hunt Publishing, 2000).
