NORTH NEWTON, KAN. Family Fest at Bethel College is scheduled for Feb. 20-22 with a variety of activities planned for family members of current students. Activities for the three-day event begin Friday morning with families invited to attend classes with their college student. "We wanted to give parents the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities this year. They can go to classes and convocation, eat meals in the college cafeteria or in Newton restaurants and worship in the chapel but also attend special workshops, see a movie, go to the museum and do other fun activities," says Deanna Wisdom, resident director and coordinator for the event. "We will have something for everyone in the family, even a nationally-known comedian scheduled for Saturday afternoon entertainment."
Comedian Eric O’Shea from New York will perform at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 21 in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center. The public is welcome. Tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for children under 12 and will be available at the door. For more information, see the Bethel College news release.
Parents and other family members who visit campus for Family Fest are invited to attend classes and convocation on Friday morning. Afternoon workshops for parents will be presented by family therapist Bruce Woods of Wichita, Bethel’s church relations director Dale Schrag, and career services director Marla Krell.
Other activities on the schedule are an open house in the residence halls, tours of Krehbiel Science Center and Kaufman House, night sky viewing at the observatory, breakfast in Goerz House and a tailgate party.
The Bethel College Bookstore will be open 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and Kauffman Museum hours will be 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Thresher basketball teams will play Bethany College in Thresher Gym on Saturday, Feb. 21. The women’s junior varsity team plays at 1 p.m., men’s junior varsity team at 3 p.m., women’s varsity at 5 p.m. and men’s varsity at 7 p.m. The Parents Association will provide post-game snacks.
The nursing lamplighting ceremony, which honors junior nursing students, is at 2 p.m., Feb. 22 in the Administration Building Chapel.
