NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Composer J. Harold Moyer, who teaches music composition courses at Bethel College in North Newton, has been recognized by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) for the quality of his works written during the past year. Selected annually by an independent panel, the ASCAP Awards are based upon the unique prestige value of each writer’s catalog of original compositions as well as recent performances in areas not surveyed by the organization. Moyer’s recent works include chamber and choral music. One of his compositions was an arrangement of the hymn "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken," (Shawnee Press, 2002), which the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus performed last spring.
