Bethel College to honor graduates, alumni

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Bethel College will honor graduating seniors and returning alumni during end-of-year celebrations May 23-25 on campus. The college will celebrate the commencement of its 110th graduating class at 2:30 p.m., May 25 in Memorial Hall. During the weekend, families and friends of the 98 seniors who are expected to graduate will be on campus as well as more than 300 alumni. An alumni banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m., Saturday evening, May 24 in Memorial Hall. Alumni holding reunions are the college classes of '28, '33, '38, '43, '48, '53, '58, '63, '68 and the academy class of '48.

Friday evening alumni class members will assemble for an opening meal, followed by a tour of new sights on campus and closing with an ice cream social. On Saturday the reunion classes will join retired faculty and staff at a breakfast buffet. At the breakfast and the alumni banquet, the Bethel College Alumni Association will honor alumni award recipients Rosalind Enns Andreas of Essex, Vt., and William E. Dunn and Irene A. (Schmidt) Dunn, Clarkston, Wash.

At a coffee in the historic Goerz House on Saturday morning, Bethel College President E. LaVerne Epp and Marilyn Epp will host classes observing 50 or more years. Classes will meet separately for reunion luncheons at noon.

Dedication of the Bethel College Memorial Grove is planned for 3 p.m., May 24. Located on the Sand Creek Trail on the northeast part of campus, the grove was completed earlier this year. It features a concrete plaza with seating, fire circle, gazebo and walkway and has room for more than 200 engraved memorial bricks. Landscaping and trees surround the site.

Other Saturday events that are open to the public include the nursing pinning ceremony at 2 p.m. in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center, and the senior art exhibit reception from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.

Baccalaureate on Sunday is at 10 a.m. in Bethel College Mennonite Church.
