Bethel College jazz students to present Jazz on the Plaza

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Bethel College Thresher Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present Jazz on the Plaza at 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 14 on the plaza near Memorial Hall at Bethel College, North Newton. Director is Stephen Jones. Admission is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for this outdoor concert. Other seating will be limited.

Members of the Jazz Combo are Ian Gingrich-Gaylord, Wichita, on piano; Chris Janzen, Fresno, Calif., on guitar; and Tory Doerksen, Prescott Valley, Ariz., on bass.

Performers in Bethel College Thresher Jazz Ensemble are saxophones: junior David Hasegawa, Sanger, Calif.; senior James Regier, Haven; senior Amanda Sazama, Edna (formerly Osmond, Neb.); senior Lora Swartzendruber, Plano, Texas; freshman Sara Hobbs, Newton; freshman Marshall Sadiq, Halstead.

Trumpets include senior Curtis Shoup, Mt. Eaton, Ohio; junior Todd Flory, McPherson; junior Benjamin Voth, Newton.

Trombones are senior Ryan O'Reilly, Mountain Lake, Minn.; sophomore Giovanni Garofalo, Newton; senior Michael McKitrick, Aurora, Colo.; sophomore Russell Adrian, Butterfield, Minn.

Members of the rhythm section are senior Ian Gingrich-Gaylord, Wichita, on piano; senior Matt Esau, Hillsboro, on bass; senior Luke Schmidt, Peabody, on drums; freshman Joshua Piper, North Newton, on piano; senior Chris Janzen, Fresno, Calif., on guitar; sophomore Jesse Overright, Normal, Ill., on drums.
