NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Kauffman Museum, in collaboration with First Bank of Newton, is gearing up for another round of bus trips, beginning in late summer. The series of nine trips will include both day and overnight excursions to multiple sites in a variety of locations within the state. Ranging from local areas to the corners of Kansas, the tours will highlight both history and natural history themes. Kauffman Museum has offered both in-state and out-of-state educational bus tours to members and friends of the museum since 1994. The tours are pre-arranged so that all participants' expenses are covered. Andi Schmidt Andres, curator of education for Kauffman Museum, explains that "by including all aspects of the trip in our package price, we allow our guests to truly sit back and enjoy the trip."
Though Kauffman Museum has offered these tours independently in the past, it is teaming up with First Bank of Newton for the up-coming series of trips. Andres noted that the partnership with First Bank of Newton will allow Kauffman Museum to expand its trip offerings to meet the growing demand from members and past participants as well as reach potential new members.
"Partnering with a quality organization like Kauffman Museum was an easy decision," says Ray Penner, president of First Bank of Newton. "The museum's dedication to providing people with interesting cultural and historical experiences fits nicely with First Bank of Newton's vision of public service and commitment to the community."
The excursions, starting in late summer of 2003 and running through spring 2004, kick off Kauffman Museum's new exhibition, K Is for Kansas, opening in fall 2003. The various bus tours will extend the exhibit's celebration of Kansas' natural and cultural history to a multitude of points of interest throughout the state, according to Andres. The tours will include both an intergenerational trip and an "A-Z" tour, echoing the alphabetic themes of the K Is for Kansas exhibition.
