Bethel College student flutist to present senior recital

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Bethel College student Amanda Sazama from Edna will present her senior flute and piccolo recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 9 in the Administration Building Chapel at Bethel College, North Newton. Admission is free and open to the public. A 1999 graduate of Osmond (Neb.) Community School, Sazama is a music and Spanish major at Bethel College where she is a student of flute instructor Kristin (Keefer) Shaffer of Wichita.

Sazama has performed in various settings during her undergraduate career. She has played with the orchestra for the college opera productions and with the Bethel College Sinfonia and Bethel College Winds Ensemble. She has performed in trios and quartets that have performed in Newton, Hesston and Moundridge. Last summer she was a guest member of the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra.

During the fall 2001 semester, she studied flute under Javier Flores Mavil at the University of Veracruz in Mexico. While there, she also performed in a community orchestra that played in Jalapa and Altatonga and on a live radio broadcast in Jalapa.

Sazama is the daughter of Ted Sazama of Derby and Candy Sazama of Edna.
