NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Bethel College Dance Ensemble will perform a Winter Dance Recital at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12 in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center at Bethel College in North Newton. The ensemble will perform original, contemporary pieces choreographed by dance instructor Tiffany Jefferson. Admission is free and open to the public. "This is the first time the Bethel College Academy of Music dance department will be having a recital; we’re really hoping to see the department grow," Jefferson says. "The program will be a short recital of our fall work. We are doing ‘Just an Ordinary Day," which is a modern piece about the Sept. 11 tragedies, a spiritual piece called ‘We Fall Down’ and a fun and energetic hip hop/jazz number."

Dancers include Bethany Amstutz, sophomore from Goessel; Sara Flaming, junior from Newton; Lauren Gillis, freshman from Colorado (Colo.) Springs; Leah Larson, sophomore from Clay Center; Amy Mattson, senior from Salina; Kara Marie Schmidt, freshman from North Newton; Emily Smith, sophomore from North Newton; Maria Tschetter, junior from Freeman, S.D.; and Anna Weaverdyck, sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich.

Dance students take lessons through the Bethel College Academy of Music and receive college credit through Bethel College.
