Career Planning

Bethel College offers academic excellence in the classroom as well as practical opportunities outside the classroom to prepare your child for a career after graduation. From hands-on internships to in-depth research, your child will already have a set of skills to add to his or her resume. And by definition, Bethel’s liberal arts education will prepare your child to be well-rounded – a trait that employers value.

Career services

Bethel’s Experiential Learning and Career Services, also known as Career Services, offers students personalized service along with the opportunity to prepare for post-graduation success. Assistance is available to work on self-assessment and career exploration, develop a four-year career plan, write a resume or cover letter, conduct a job search, prepare for an interview, seek internships or graduate schools, network or prepare teaching credential files. Workshops, career fairs and employment opportunities, both on and off campus, are coordinated and/or advertised through this office.

In lieu of a career fresh out of college, a number of students choose to continue their education after graduation by attending medical school, graduate school or seminary, or accept an assignment in volunteer work – a practice tied to the Mennonite tradition of service. Career Services can also help your child with these options.

Experiential learning

A number of Bethel’s academic majors either require or encourage off-campus experiences. Recent Bethel students have interned or held jobs at a variety of businesses, including the World Trade Center and KSN-TV in Wichita; Excel Industries in Hesston; Prairie View Health Services and Midland National Bank in Newton; and almost every area hospital and school. Your child’s academic adviser, along with Bethel’s director of Experiential Learning & Career Services and director of Alumni Services strive to make connections with alumni and businesses within the local, Wichita and south central Kansas community-at-large, to ensure your child obtains the experience he or she wants and needs.

Student employment

Your child’s employment marketability is subject to employers looking at his or her background of valuable experiences and skills, as well as his or her potential by virtue of a liberal arts college education. At Bethel College, a campus job will provide your child with the opportunity to show that he or she is reliable and able to perform work assignments. Bethel’s Experiential Learning and Career Services will help your son or daughter find a job that suits his or her interests and skills.
