Wichita Eagle photographer to speak at Bethel College convocation

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The Bethel College Convocation Series will offer a presentation by Wichita Eagle photographer Travis Heying at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 27 in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center on the campus in North Newton. He will speak on "Iraq: From a Kansas Perspective." Admission is free and open to the public. Heying has been a staff photographer for the Wichita Eagle since 1997. He studied journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Heying's local news coverage has included the 1998 DeBruce Grain Elevator explosion, the 1999 Haysville tornado and the 2002 birth of the Headrick sextuplets.

Heying became a member of Knight-Ridder's war coverage team in February 2003 and was first dispatched to the country of Qatar where he covered the U.S. Central Command in March and April. From Aug. 24 to Oct. 29, he was assigned to Knight-Ridder's Baghdad bureau.
