Wichita Chamber Chorale to present HBPA Christmas concert December 7

Hesston, Kan. - The Wichita Chamber Chorale will present a Christmas concert at Hesston College's Yost Center at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec . 7. Titled "Sounding Joy," the program is the third event in the 2002-03 Hesston-Bethel Performing Arts season. The chorale will open the concert with joyous processional settings of "Rejoice, Rejoice Believers," "O Be Joyful" and "O Come, All Ye Faithful." A wide variety of seasonal music will follow, highlighting many favorites from Christmas past, including "A Spotless Rose," "The Huron Carol," "The Three Kings," "Videntes stellam," "I Saw Three Ships" and "Sir Christ'mas."

The program's centerpiece is Conrad Susa's Carols and Lullabies, a suite of ten carols depicting a colorful Christmas in the Southwest, accompanied by Ann Glasmann (harp), Tom Harder (guitar), and Kevin Bobo (marimba). Many familiar Andalucian, Biscayan, Castilian, Catalonian, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Spanish carols comprise the suite, including "Alegr'a," "A la Nanita Nana", "On December's Frozen Ground," "El Rorro" and "Fum, Fum, Fum."

Dinner (served in Hesston College's Bontrager Student Center before the show--menu: pitt ham, scalloped potatoes, peas, and corn) and a reserved seat ticket is $25. Concert-only tickets are $12-15 for adults, $10-15 for senior citizens, $5-15 for students.

Additional performances for the HBPA series are scheduled at Hesston College in Hesston and Bethel College in North Newton. Kol Simcha (Europe's Klezmer Band) will play at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at Memorial Hall, Bethel College. Cantus, a male vocal chamber ensemble, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at Yost Center, Hesston College.
