NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The Bethel College interterm class Prison Theater Project presents Inside Story, Feb. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Krehbiel Auditorium on campus.
This represents a change from calendars printed earlier.
During January, eight students and 15 inmates at Hutchinson Correctional Facility collaborated on the project, which comprises journal entries by both students and inmates, and four short plays.
John McCabe-Juhnke, Bethel professor of communication arts, conceived and directed the project, the third such at Bethel, although he has been doing prison theater for more than 12 years.
The whole group performed Inside Story within HCF’s East Unit Jan. 25 for inmates and Jan. 26 for a small audience of the public.
The Feb. 8 and 9 performances, by the students only, are free and open to the public, with freewill offerings taken to support Offender Victim Ministries’ (OVM) Prison Ministries program.
A talk-back with the students and McCabe-Juhnke will take place after each performance.
Students in the Prison Theater Project are Clint Burton, senior from Rose Hill, David Fuentes, junior from Garden City, Jacklyn Gerk, freshman from Holyoke, Colorado, Robert Graham, freshman from Maize, Jennifer Harrison, sophomore from Fort Scott, Araeleigha Marcy, sophomore from Salina, Brett Mathis, senior from Long Beach, California, and Joseph Winfield, sophomore from Edmond, Oklahoma.
