NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Paintings by Wichita artist Charles Baughman are on display in Bethel College’s Regier Art Gallery.
“Organic Abstraction” is an exhibit of nature-based, somewhat abstract, paintings by Baughman, a nationally known artist and a long-time art educator.
The artist reception will be March 17, 6-8 p.m. just outside the gallery in Luyken Fine Arts Center on the Bethel campus.
Baughman has a bachelor’s degree in studio arts and art history from Kearney (Nebraska) State College and an MFA in painting/sculpture from Wichita State University.
He has an extensive background as a fine artist and has exhibited work around the country.
Baughman has been involved in art education for more than a decade. He has been an instructor at the Wichita Art Museum, Wichita State University, Cowley Community College, Butler Community College, Wichita Center for the Arts and Friends University.
Baughman has developed and taught classes ranging from Art Appreciation and Figurative Sculpture to advanced drawing and painting courses. He started the children’s art program Monart in the Wichita area.
“Organic Abstraction” will be on display through March 18. Gallery hours are Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 2-4 p.m. Admission is free.
The remaining exhibits for this school year are the Annual Student Exhibit, April 1-22, and the Annual Senior Exhibit, April 29-May 20.
