NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Kauffman Museum would like to take you out to the ball game.
The museum’s first bus tour of the school year will be a Sept. 13 day trip to Kansas City that culminates in a match-up between the KC Royals and the Oakland As.
The tour price for “KC Royals Play Ball!” ($175 for museum members, $190 for non-members) includes travel in a modern motor coach with a restroom, a light breakfast on the bus, a tour of Kauffman Stadium, a BBQ lunch, admission to two nearby museums, and the game ticket with “cash” for buying supper at the stadium.
Before the trip, with date to be determined, John Dreifort from Wichita State University will give a presentation of important and entertaining baseball facts and trivia. Dr. Dreifort is a specialist in modern European diplomacy and in the history of baseball.
On Sept. 13, the first event (after a pay-your-own coffee stop midway to Kansas City) is a 90-minute behind-the-scenes tour of the Royals’ home stadium.
This tour of “The K” will include the Royals dugout, Outfield Plaza, the press box, the interview room and the Royals Hall of Fame.
Lunch will be at Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue in the 18th & Vine district downtown. Celebrities and U.S. presidents have lauded the barbecue sauce Bryant created, and New Yorker columnist Calvin Trillin, a Kansas City native, considers Bryant’s barbecue the best in the world.
For the KC vs. Oakland game, the group will have a covered seating area along the third-base line, giving a great view of the fountains, scoreboard and field.
Game tickets will be “loaded” with a specific amount of “cash” to use at the concession stands to buy food or merchandise within the stadium.
Reservation deadline is Aug. 30, first-come first-served. The fee is refundable (minus a $40 processing charge) up until Aug. 30; after Aug. 30, refunds depend on site policies and waiting lists, with no refunds given 48 hours or less prior to tour departure.
