NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College student Julie Wedel Martens, Peabody, will give her senior piano recital Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building chapel.
Martens will graduate from Bethel May 17 with a degree in music with education licensure. She is a student of Karen Bauman Schlabaugh, Bethel College professor of music.
Martens will perform works by Mozart, Grieg, Debussy and Khachaturian.
While at Bethel, Martens was a member of the Bethel College Concert Choir and the Bethel College Women’s Chorus, serving as a rehearsal accompanist and assistant conductor. She sang in the chorus for the 2012 Bethel production of the opera The Tender Land.
She also played flute in the Bethel College Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra and Philharmonia, and was part of the pit orchestra for Bethel’s 2010 production of the musical Into the Woods.
Martens is a 2010 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School and the daughter of Art and Jana Wedel of Peabody.
Martens’ recital is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in The Meeting Place, on the ground floor of the Ad Building.
