Gingrich-Gaylord awarded Bethel College Thresher Award in Music

September 11th, 2017

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. -Bethel College senior Ian Gingrich-Gaylord, an art and music major from Wichita, received the Thresher Award in Music during the college's annual Awards Convocation May 12. The convocation, held at the end of each spring semester, recognizes academic excellence.

The Thresher Award is given to graduating seniors for outstanding and sustained contribution in performance areas, for outstanding creative achievement in the applied sciences, or for completion of an outstanding and substantial academic project.

"Ian is a fine pianist in both classical and jazz genres," said award presenter Stephen Jones, who is jazz instructor at Bethel College. "He has performed solo recitals and with the Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble. Ian's original jazz compositions for the Combo have garnered praise from nationally recognized artists and educators at such venues as the Wichita Jazz Festival."

Gingrich-Gaylord was one of seven graduating seniors to receive Thresher Awards this year.
