Cebrun receives Bethel's 2014 UPS Scholarship

September 11th, 2017

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College freshman Hannah Cebrun has been selected to receive a $2,425 UPS Scholarship for 2014-15, provided through the Kansas Independent College Association (KICA) Fund.

Cebrun, of Valley View, Texas, is the daughter of Ken and Nina Cebrun and is a homeschool graduate. She is a member of Bethel’s cross-country team and is interested in sports medicine.

Overall, the KICA Fund awarded $43,650 in UPS scholarship funds to one high-achieving, low-income student at each of the 18 private colleges and universities that are members of the Topeka-based organization.

The scholarships are made possible by a grant from the UPS Educational Endowment Fund, administered by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, D.C.

This school year, CIC and the UPS Foundation teamed up to provide nearly $1.5 million in student scholarships, to be distributed through other state-based private college associations, like KICA, around the country.

The 18 UPS Scholars in Kansas have an average GPA of 3.25. Among them are five students in addition to Cebrun with interest in health-related fields, three studying business administration, three in the social sciences and humanities, two preparing for careers in K-12 education and one studying biology.

The UPS Educational Endowment Fund was established in the 1970s by the UPS Foundation to support programs that benefit underserved populations.

Since its inception, the endowment has generated more than $50 million in scholarship support for more than 17,000 students at independent colleges and universities.

Members of the KICA are Baker University, Baldwin City; Benedictine College, Atchison; Bethany College, Lindsborg; Bethel College; Central Christian College, McPherson; Donnelly College, Kansas City, Kansas; Friends University, Wichita; Hesston College; Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina; McPherson College; Manhattan Christian College; MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe; Newman University, Wichita; Ottawa University; Southwestern College, Winfield; Sterling College; Tabor College, Hillsboro; and University of St. Mary, Leavenworth.

Bethel College is the only private, liberal arts college in Kansas listed in the 2014-15 analysis of top colleges and universities in the United States, and is the highest-ranked Kansas college in the Washington Monthly annual college guide for 2014-15. The four-year liberal arts college is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA. For more information, see
