Cantus To Present HBPA Concert

September 11th, 2017

HESSTON, KAN. - Cantus, a 10-member a capella vocal ensemble, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, in Hesston College's Yost Center. The concert is the final performance in the 2002-03 Hesston-Bethel Performing Arts season. HBPA chair Jake Rittenhouse heard Cantus in concert last fall in Columbus, Ohio. "Their musical blend is impeccable. Very few male groups can equal their outstanding ensemble singing. The repertoire of the group ranges from traditional selections to unusual choral settings for male voices."

Cantus was founded in fall 1995 when a few college friends gathered on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Their objective was to spend time away from the rigors of college life doing something they enjoyed: singing. Cantus has performed more than 250 concerts in the nation during the past seven years.

Enjoying a successful blend of national tours and recording projects, Cantus is gaining recognition as one of America's finest professional male vocal ensembles. Cantus performances are met with overwhelming praise for the group's unique blend of youthful vitality and polished nuance. The Washington Post calls Cantus' sound "beaming and elastic" and refers to their music as "spontaneous grace."

The Cantus concert is a Heartland Arts Fund Program. The Heartland Arts Fund is a collaborative venture of Arts Midwest, Mid-America Arts Alliance, their member state arts agencies (Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin) with primary funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, and support from private contributors.

For tickets, call 620-327-8158 or 866-437-7866 ext. 8158 (toll free) at Hesston College (reserved or general admission) or 316-284-5281 at Bethel College (general admission only). Tickets are $12-15 for adults, $10-15 for senior citizens, $5-15 for students.
