NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – With the start of a new school year, Thresher Bookstore in Schultz Student Center – often known simply as “the Bethel bookstore” – has undergone a name change.
Casey Schunn, store manager, announced that the business will now be called Thresher Shop.
“The transition to online for [ordering] book supplies happened years ago,” Schunn noted. “Our store adapted to that change and increased our stock of apparel and other Bethel College merchandise in order to keep business going.
“This adaptation has been successful over the years, but the name ‘Bookstore’ became less and less of an accurate term as time went on.”
One of Schunn’s priorities when he came into the manager position last year was to work, through brainstorming and soliciting customer and campus feedback, to find a name that would “best represent who we are and what we do in this store, both to those who know Bethel well and those who do not.
“Thresher Shop is the place to go for Bethel College apparel, memorabilia and other merchandise. We also supply students and the community with an array of office supplies, as well as access to printing, copying, scanning and faxing services. If you need anything at all, our staff will be happy to assist you in finding it.”
Thresher Shop will continue as an outlet for tickets for campus productions and Hesston-Bethel Performing Arts Series events.
There is also a bookshelf where faculty and alumni publications that are for sale will be on display, along with a limited amount of student-generated material, such as the current yearbook and the literary magazine YAWP!.
Thresher Shop’s normal hours of operation are Monday-Friday,8 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be extended hours on Saturdays during special events such as Family Weekend (Sept. 19), Fall Festival (Oct. 10) and Scholarship Day (March 5, 2016). For information, call 316-284-5205.
